Brewery Hill Jacko's Leap Savignan 2011
by Jock Harvey

  • Completely by accident, Jock's hit gold with this one. What he thought was Albarino turned out to Savagnin (a grape from the Jura region in France). No matter, it turned out to taste bloody marvellous.
  • Jock kindly asked us if we'd like to give it a go, so here it is, fresh from Aus and ready to be tasted and rated by as many as our lovely angels as possible.
  • If you want something new to try, look no further. It's like fresh apples combined with crushed peach, with a zippy, racy finish that makes it as refreshing as a bucket of cold water on a hot summers day.

"I grew up amongst the vines as a boy. I have several memories from when I was young...hand-picking grapes, loading grapes onto trailers, drinking constant supplies of Grenache juice, tasting the sweet pink juice that bubbled in the winery fermenters...the list continues. It's a fantastic career; an opportunity for adventure, hard work, good food and wine and meeting other wine lovers..."

Loved this, toasty on the nose, med body, silky texture with honeyed peach and melon flavours which keep on improving as it nears room temp. Decent length finish.

This doesn't carry the punch of acidity nor the dryness typical of many popular white varietals and that's exactly why I like it so much. It's smooth and round with a perfectly judged level of sweetness.

Held up well against Chicken Kiev and even better with a spicy beef tagliatelle.

In summary this is unique, well balanced and an absolute bargain. One of my top naked whites.

Sadly not a wine for me, no nose, no real depth of flavour and a rather strange after taste.
