Thanks for your comments over the past few days - we're picking and its starting to get busy. A warm week ahead, going up a few degrees each day until we're 35 by Thursday - heard its been cool over there!.
Simon and Barry thanks for your comments re the 2011 Assemblage and well picked with the vintage difference. 2011 was a bit cooler than 2010 so the flavours are more elegant than bold. Very important with these young wines - two rules, 1. Decant roughly (get some air in the wines) 2. Warm them (get a big glass, cup it in both hands, swirl the wine, warm it, smell it - you're getting close to having a sip when the aroma starts to come up and out of the glass - if you cant smell the wine, it's still too cold). If you need an anaology - remeber the reaction when you jump into bed for a cuddle with cold feet, or pull the covers off in the morning.....same with these young red wines - air and body heat

We started picking a couple of nights ago, first time weve picked iN January
, this is because the crops are light and we've had a classic year, wet winters, mild spring and a few hot days in summer. 2012 will go down as a classic. On Sunday night it was still in the mid twenties around midnight when Nadal and Jocovik were playing their epic final at the Australian Open, I was picking Chardonnay around midnight when a shower of rain came through, the fruit tasted like pineapple and with a warm night and a shower of rain it felt more like Asia than McLaren Vale. We'll be picking the Savignan for Jacko's Leap in a couple of weeks, drink up, drink safe
